Search engine optimisation

If a website can’t be found easily on Google and other leading search engines, it’s effectiveness is diminished. It may never be seen by the people you want to reach.

Jellymould’s optimisation techniques and advice to the web content writers helped position Hillgate PR as the first result with Google for their most prioritised phrase “home interest PR”, helping them overtake the competition. They also score really well for many related phrases, such as “interiors PR”.

The London Housing Foundation’s website on the subject of the private rented sector also gets first result, first page with Google for the most obvious search term.

Writing for good search engine results

A good web writer understands how search engines work and will ensure web content strikes a balance between being concise and readable, and findable.

We can work with you to help you get good results for relevant searches, either by writing content for you or by advising on how to write content in a findable way.

Other techniques

There are a number of other techniques that can be employed to help improve search engine results. The first is to be clear for which searches you want your website to be found and to set realistic targets - this is a worldwide directory of billions of web pages.

It’s important to be able to get inside the head of a person who might want to find your content and to think about how they would phrase their search. Ideally, this would be tested with users. This is a key part of establishing the aims and audience of your website, so if this is done well at the start, optimisation will follow on very naturally.

Then it is important to keep up the level of detail in terms of naming files - PDFs, images, MP3s etc - in a findable way, using relevant and helpful terms.

Finally, the site needs to be noticed by Google and this can be done through submitting the site on a regular basis and by ensuring other organisations link through to your website.
